Banesco USA has awarded grants to nonprofit organizations across Puerto Rico to support initiatives focused on economic development, entrepreneurship, education, health care, affordable housing and assistance for vulnerable populations.
The grants will help fund programs serving small businesses, aspiring entrepreneurs, young people, women, low- and moderate-income families, and individuals facing social and economic challenges.
“At Banesco USA, we understand that our commitment to Puerto Rico includes helping strengthen communities and supporting organizations that work directly to create opportunities and improve the quality of life for our people,” said Maritza Abadía, president of Banesco USA in Puerto Rico. She added that sustainable economic development depends on providing people with the tools, knowledge and support needed to advance.
Among the organizations receiving support is Centro CRECE, which promotes entrepreneurship and business education among children and young people through initiatives such as Lemonade Day. Casa Sin Fronteras provides training, mentoring and business support to young people with limited employment opportunities, while Eco Recursos Comunitarios (ERCO) works to encourage the development of microenterprises and small businesses.
The funding also supports PRODUCIR, an organization focused on economic development, affordable housing, agriculture and entrepreneurship in rural communities. Iniciativa Comunitaria will receive support for programs providing health services, prevention, rehabilitation and assistance to people experiencing homelessness and those affected by substance use disorders.
The Puerto Rican Police Federation is also among the beneficiaries, receiving support for social assistance programs serving the families of police officers who died in the line of duty.
Other organizations benefiting from the grants include Lendreams, the corporate brand of COFECC, which provides training for microentrepreneurs and self-employed workers with low to moderate incomes; Vitrina Solidaria, which strengthens entrepreneurial skills and supports low-income communities; and Friends of Puerto Rico, which promotes entrepreneurship, financial education and access to capital for women, young people and low- to moderate-income communities.
“We are proud to be able to support the efforts of these organizations and contribute to initiatives that turn resources and knowledge into concrete opportunities for people,” Abadía said. She noted that the organizations work directly with communities and understand the needs of the people they serve.
Banesco USA said the initiative reflects its commitment to supporting inclusive economic development and strengthening communities throughout Puerto Rico. The bank’s funding is intended to help nonprofit organizations expand opportunities and contribute to the long-term well-being and economic resilience of the populations they serve.
