US President Donald Trump has suggested renaming either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean “Trump Ocean” or “Ocean of the Americas”, signalling that his geographical renaming campaign could extend to the world’s largest bodies of water.
According to The Washington Post, speaking at a campaign rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, on Saturday (10 October), ahead of the 3 November midterm elections.
Trump said he wants an ocean and a major river renamed before the end of his presidency.
“We need a river. We need an ocean,” Trump told supporters, drawing laughter and applause from the crowd.
“Before I get out, I think we should have an ocean. And we need a great river,” he added.
The remarks follow a series of geographical renaming decisions and proposals by the Trump administration, including changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and proposing to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America.
