A Cloudflare outage right now has downed NJ Transit, X (Twitter), ChatGPT, Truth Social, Gemini, Canvas, and other major websites and apps, which has blocked user access amid major Cloudflare challenges today, Tuesday, Nov. 18. Cloudflare said on its status page it is aware of the issue “which potentially impacts multiple consumers,” noting that further information would be provided once it becomes available. Here’s the latest.
What is Cloudflare? Error explained
Cloudflare services are used by hundreds of thousands of companies globally (about 19.4%), acting as a buffer (called a Content Delivery Network, or CDN) between their websites and end users to protect them from attacks that might overload them with traffic.
Cloudflare outages are likely caused by server overloads, network bugs, cyberattacks or configuration errors. Users were met with several messages today including “Fix Cloudflare You Have Been Blocked” and these messages: challenges.cloudflare.com | 500: Internal server error, with users scrambling to “unblock” themselves.
