DAVIS (CBS13) – Two local men have been arrested for an assault on UC Davis campus that police are now calling a hate crime.

Around 3 a.m. Monday, an African American female was reportedly in the West Village area of campus when she was assaulted by two men, according to UC Davis Police Department spokesperson Any Fell. Police did not release the details of the assault but say it was of a non-sexual nature.

Arrested were Lonny Doyal Lee, 24, of West Sacramento and Justin Sheppard, 22, of Sacramento. They face charges of assault, committing a hate crime, and public intoxication. Jake Lee, 22, of Sacramento, was reportedly with the men during the assault but is only being cited for public intoxication.

All three suspects were booked into the Yolo County Jail.
