Longtime Today anchor Al Roker, 70, shared some big family news with his social media followers on Sunday, March 2: His daughter Leila Roker, 26, is engaged.
“Well, it is now official. @gricourt.thegreat has proposed to my little girl, @leilaroker in the romantic city of Venice. We could not be happier, and look forward to planning for these two wonderful young folks coming together,” Roker captioned an Instagram post. He included some candid photos from the proposal.
Leila has been dating her fiance, Sylvain Gricourt, 33, for seven years. She also shared a post on Instagram sharing the news.
“8 years ago, I moved to Paris, 7 years ago I met my person and best friend,, and 2 days ago, that person took me on the most amazing surprise trip to Venice to ask me to spend the rest of our lives together,” she wrote. Leila included a close-up shot of her pear-shaped diamond ring.
Leila’s mom, Deborah Roberts, who married Al in 1995, showed her support for the couple in the comments section of her daughter’s post.
“We could not be happier and more joyful!!!! Welcome to the family Sylvain! Now let’s plan a wedding,” she said. Other friends and social media users also commented on the post, wishing Leila and her fiance the best.
“Congrats and best wishes! (Way to represent for the pear shape girlies!),” one person wrote. “The news is out!! I love you guys. Congratulations and I’m so beyond excited for you!!!” someone else said. “Leila!!!! Tearing UP happy tears over here, this is sooooo amazing!!!!! Congratulations!!! Wow so sweet,” a third comment read.
Leila’s fiance also posted about the engagement on his Instagram account, calling it the “best thing” he’s done over the course of the last 33 years.
Leila is Al’s middle child; he welcomed his daughter, Courtney, in 1987 with his now ex-wife Alice Bell. Al and Roberts welcomed Leila in 1998 and son Nick in 2002.
