Shiner brews up new fruity flavor with Amy’s Ice Creams

For San Antonians having trouble deciding between cracking a beer and diving into some ice cream, there’s a summery new collaboration to try. Shiner, the famous Texas beer brand, and Austin-based Amy’s Ice Creams have released a limited-edition ice cream called Raspberry Summer Shandy.

Although Amy’s flavors rotate, this one will be easy to find. It’s at all Amy’s locations (including San Antonio), as well as the K. Spoetzl Brewery & Distillery, about 91 miles southeast of Alamo City in the city of Shiner.

Sweet cream is the base of this ice cream, which is swirled with Shiner’s Raspberry Lemonade Shandy. Agave and premium two-row and wheat malt give a little more oomph. A rep from Amy’s describes the flavor as a balance between “tart raspberry, zesty citrus, and a smooth, easy finish.”

The beer itself is a seasonal lager that uses real raspberries and lemon for flavor. It’s available from May through August.

Amy’s is no stranger to boozy ice cream. In fact, there are nearly a dozen “spiked” flavors in rotation across Amy’s stores, including the Shiner Cheer, which has deeper malt and caramel tones. One utilizes bourbon from Garrison Brothers in Hye, while others are inspired by entire cocktails, like the Mai Tai with an unnamed rum.

If the partnership with Shiner continues, the brand is now making four spirits that might go well with ice cream: moonshine, cinnamon moonshine, vodka, and gin.
