Salt Lake City gets architectural cred from this mid-century landmark

The Gore House unfolds across the foothills of Salt Lake City, one of Eduard Dreier’s most distinctive mid-century works. A study in expressive geometry, crisp lines and Utah light, it was completed in 1956 and restored in 2025 with interiors by Tally Stevens, and it keeps Dreier’s sculptural intent close while introducing a quieter, more refined material palette. The home moves easily between past and present, retaining the clarity of Dreier’s geometry while refining how the spaces live today.

Across 4,038 square feet, the interior takes on a gentle material cadence. Quartzite, marble, travertine and terrazzo hold the daylight in muted tones, giving the rooms a sense of depth rather than display. New interventions are quiet by design — Thermador appliances and custom lighting absorbed into the original lines, with Nest controls, Sonos audio and EV charging threaded in so subtly they read as part of the architecture. The layout includes four bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a powder room that follow Dreier’s established rhythm, opening to glimpses of the foothills and the shifting mountain light.

Outside, a tulip-shaped carport remains the home’s most recognisable gesture. A floating concrete canopy that reads as both shelter and sculpture, it anchors a property that has long been part of the city’s design memory, now restored for its next chapter. It’s listed for $2,250,000 with Summit Sotheby’s International Realty.
