With the launch of the OnePlus 15 right around the corner, early leaks have already started hinting at what the next flagship in the lineup might bring. According to a recent report, OnePlus is reportedly working on a smartphone that could feature a 240Hz refresh rate display, making a significant shift from the 165Hz panel on the OnePlus 15. If true, this could make the OnePlus 16 the smoothest Android device for gaming and everyday use. However, the upgrade may come with challenges in display resolution and battery efficiency.

According to a recent leak from @OnePlusClub, a tipster known for accurate OnePlus leaks, who revealed that the company is targeting the “perfect balance between high resolution and a 240Hz dynamic refresh rate.” This suggests that OnePlus may bring a higher refresh rate without compromising screen clarity, unlike the OnePlus 15, which moves from a 2K to a 1.5K panel to support its new 165Hz refresh rate.

While the leak doesn’t exactly confirm which model will debut the feature, it is expected to arrive as early as next year with the OnePlus 16. If this is true, this would put OnePlus ahead of several flagship rivals that currently offer at 165Hz.

A higher refresh rate typically improves UI smoothness, gaming responsiveness, and overall visual fluidity, but it can also increase battery consumption. Many users on X (formerly Twitter) questioned whether a 240Hz screen is even necessary on a smartphone, asking instead for enhancements in camera performance, thermal efficiency, and battery optimisation.
Meanwhile, the OnePlus 15 is all set to debut in the global market with a new design, powerful performance, an impressive camera setup and a 165Hz refresh rate.
