Not Ground Beef Or Italian Sausage — The Frozen Stouffer’s Lasagna Customers Love

As the epicurean orange cat Garfield once famously observed, lasagna isn’t a dish — it’s a way of life, the stuff of dreams, the food of the gods, “It’s what’s for lunch.” By that gilded standard, frozen lasagna from the box hardly seems like a fitting candidate … that is, unless you’re warming a box of Stouffer’s frozen vegetable lasagna. This vegetarian-friendly frozen entree is easy and (relatively) quick to prepare, offers nutritional value, and — best of all — totally lacks the infamous “disappointment factor” of many frozen entrees.

Within Stouffers’ oeuvre of frozen dinners, the vegetable lasagna has accrued something of a cult following. A TikTok video from Abby and Her Things with nearly 50K likes shares, “You guys I had [Stouffer’s] vegetable lasagna for the first time last night & blacked out.” The comments section is filled with similar enthusiasm: “omg ive been eating those for years,” “It’s legit the best frozen food dish known to man,” and “This with Frank’s red hot will make you ascend.” In addition to a dash of hot sauce, an extra handful of shredded cheese sprinkled over the top after baking helps take this dish to the next level.

What makes it so good? The lasagna features layers of carrots, spinach, broccoli, and onions in a rich, creamy cheese sauce. Plus, it packs 17 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber. Admittedly, it takes 49 minutes in the oven to be ready to eat from frozen. But that slow oven-bake is well worth the patience for the transformative payoff. This pre-made pasta doesn’t taste like it came from the freezer.

Stouffer’s frozen vegetable lasagna is the tough-to-find hidden gem of the freezer aisle

A Reddit thread in r/frozendinners rates Stouffer’s veggie lasagna a 9/10, praising the flavorfulness of the sauce, balanced ratio of veggies in the filling, and pleasantly “knifeable” texture of the pasta. Commenters mention liking this offering even better than the meat versions of Stouffer’s lasagna — especially happy news for vegetarian foodies. This product suits myriad dietary needs without cutting any corners in the flavor department. However, many say that this hidden-gem frozen entree can be hard to find. Foodies who happen to track down Stouffer’s vegetable lasagna at their local grocery store might consider grabbing a few boxes to stock up.

Another post rates the product a full 10/10, raving, “This is my favorite go to non meat dinner. It is very creamy and filling. Would recommend alone or if you need to[,] a chicken breast on the side.” For a quick, hearty comfort meal on a busy weeknight, foodies could pair this ready-made lasagna with a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. Here at Tasting Table, our favorite slow-roasted birds come from The Fresh Market and Kroger. Not into meat? To complete the meal, pair that veggie lasagna with a fresh side salad and a glass of wine. A chilled sauvignon blanc would work fabulously here; the wine’s vibrant, zesty acidity would bring a lively counterbalance to this rich, albeit convenient entree. The price is right, too. At a Kroger in Illinois, a 10.5-ounce single-serve Stouffer’s vegetable lasagna frozen meal costs just $3.59, currently on sale for $2.69.
