WASHINGTON D.C (VINnews) — Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., unleashed a fiery rebuke of Democrats on the House floor Wednesday, calling a partial government shutdown “an embarrassment to this country” and demanding lawmakers “hang your heads in shame” for the pain inflicted on millions of Americans.

“It is an embarrassment to this country. You should all be ashamed of yourselves for inflicting this pain on the American people,” Lawler declared. “Taking away food stamps from 42 million Americans, defunding WIC, not paying our troops, our federal employees, our air traffic controllers. It’s a disgrace.”
The Hudson Valley Republican urged his colleagues to “vote yes to pass the bill and reopen the government,”.
The impasse has halted paychecks for roughly 2 million federal workers and threatened nutrition assistance for vulnerable families.
