If you’re a Sacramento resident eyeing a shiny new high-efficiency clothes washer, you’d better act fast. The city’s rebate for these water-saving appliances is about to dry up. According to a recent post on Sacramento City Express, the City’s High-Efficiency Washer Rebate Program will be winding down on December 15, after more than a decade and a half of encouraging residents to curb indoor water usage.
As part of the rebate program, residents can get back up to $125 when they purchase a new high-efficiency washer. These are not your grandma’s washing machines; they use up to 50% less water than the clunkers of old. But don’t just casually stroll to snag this deal; you need to quickly submit a completed application along with your receipt by the mid-December deadline. The program has doled out over 4,000 rebates so far, and as buying a high-efficiency washer is one of the easiest ways to save water indoors, William Granger, the city’s water conservation coordinator, told the Sacramento City Express.
The future of Sacramento’s water conservation now lies beyond the laundry room. “Outdoor water use makes up the majority of residential water demand in Sacramento, so programs that help customers improve their irrigation systems and replace lawns with low-water landscapes offer the greatest savings potential,” Granger explained. Indeed, as conservation goals evolve, so too must the tactics employed to meet them. For all the details on how to qualify for the rebate and more information on the program, the Sacramento City Express can give you the lowdown.
