The leader of the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar), has been sued by the human rights group Democracy Hub for alleged defamation.
According to the suit, Cheddar has been accused of defamation for claiming that the Democracy Hub’s protest against illegal mining in September 2024 was politically motivated.

They, therefore, asked the court to declare that the allegation by the leader of the New Force is defamatory.
“A declaration that the statements published and caused to be published by the Defendant on or about 25–26 September 2024 are false, malicious, and defamatory of the Plaintiffs.
“A declaration that the Defendant’s publications, whether by video, written text, or oral repetition to third parties, have unlawfully injured the reputation, integrity, and public standing of each of the Plaintiffs,” parts of the suit read.
Meanwhile, Cheddar is yet to react to the post.
What Cheddar said
Earlier on September 25, 2024, in a video shared on his X account, Cheddar presented his views on the three-day protest organised by the Democracy Hub group, titled ‘#ReoccupyJulorbiHouse’.
At the time, Democracy Hub sought to demand several actions from the previous government, including an end to illegal mining, among other issues.
Reacting to this, Cheddar claimed in the recorded video that the ‘#ReoccupyJulorbiHouse’ protest, along with others such as the ‘#FixTheCountry’ protest, were all machinations of a political party.
He indicated that, although he would not mention names, he condemns such acts.
Cheddar stated that the politicians in question were pursuing personal interests through the youth, which, he added, was harming the country.
“Well, let me tell you something: all of these protests and demonstrations that have been organized in this country in the past year or two are organized by one of the duopolies. It is the same politician, and I said it.
“I am not going to mention names, but you know that Julorbi and Fix The Country were fixed by one of the existing parties. We cannot do this to ourselves and destroy this country because of a politician’s personal interest or a party interest,” he said.
Cheddar further urged Ghanaians to make their own findings to avoid being deceived.

The 2024 presidential aspirant asserted that the protests were being funded by politicians seeking to push their parochial interests, adding that the protest at the time was not about the demand to end illegal mining (galamsey).
“Please, Ghana, do your research. The people in front of all these demonstrations, some of them have treason charges. Ask, find out who is sponsoring them for the mobilization and all the things that happened. This is not about galamsey; this is about political interest,” he stated.
