It’s not often that I come across a bathroom design that stops me in my tracks. From minimalist shower rooms to powder rooms that err on the traditional side, I thought I’d seen it all – until I came across the uniquely serene sanctuary belonging to actor Dakota Johnson.
When I first laid eyes on the space, it wasn’t Dakota Johnson’s freestanding tub that leapt out at me; it was the rather unique pairing of pale pink cabinets with concrete walls. A daring yet successful design move that gives the room a surprisingly tranquil feel, I’m all for this unconventional combination.

Mustard Made
The Kit Cabinet (Blush)
Blush pink is the prominent color in Dakota’s bathroom. While re-painting your space might be off the cards, there’s no harm in switching out your current bathroom cabinet for this undeniably charming style from Mustard Made.
There’s a real mix of textures and styles in Dakota’s bathroom. While a mix of materials can be bold, Pierce & Ward, the interior designers who put the space together, strike the perfect balance between the soft and hard.
The soft, pale pink blind is the perfect addition to contrast with the raw concrete walls. If you’re looking to add a romantic touch like Dakota’s to your space without overhauling it entirely, the Belgian Flax Linen Curtain in Smoky Quartz is an easy choice.
Mike Belk, Founder of BELK Tile, says, ‘I believe that having pink cabinets set against concrete walls is an incredibly daring and brilliant design choice. The sleek, gray concrete floor is a cool, industrial, and exceptionally modern canvas for this beautiful design choice. The stark tone is deliberately broken up by custom, pale pink vanities, which Dakota Johnson characterized as “dusty-rose camel.”
He adds, ‘Although pink is incorporated into this design, it is obviously a statement choice, as it brings a soft, feminine, and warm element to this room that is starkly missing from concrete walls. This is a perfect choice to demonstrate how using color as a statement choice is an incredibly powerful step in home design.’
While pink cabinets and concrete walls might sound like an odd pairing, Dakota’s bathroom proves that the most daring design choices are often the most impressive ones. The room perfectly balances the rawness of concrete with muted, soft pinks, resulting in a serene retreat that couldn’t be more scenic.
