A long-abandoned corset factory in Canandaigua will break ground next week for its conversion into housing, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

Developer Joel Barrett plans to turn the former Labelon site on Chapin Street into “Hunter House,” a 51-unit apartment complex. The four-story brick building, empty since Labelon went bankrupt in 2002, has gone through a brownfield cleanup and is up for historic recognition.

After years of failed redevelopment attempts, Barrett’s plan significantly cuts commercial space and puts housing first — finally giving new life to the 100-year-old site.
