Ken Jennings may be the reigning king of Jeopardy!, but fans are wondering if the game show GOAT could still hold his crown if he returned to the contestant’s podium today.
Despite not having competed in five years, the host’s legendary status on the show had fans on Reddit on Wednesday, February 19, debating whether time away from the game would hinder 50-year-old Jennings’ skills or if he would still reign supreme.
“Just curious if people think Ken Jennings could swap positions and still be a very dominant contestant? I wonder if he is no longer constantly prepping, if the knowledge base inevitably starts to fade?” the thread asked.

One user responded by saying, “His command of the trivia is vast. Only question would be if he’s slowed down at all on buzzer and recall. I still think he’d dominate.”
“The GOAT tournament was only five years ago. Of course he’d still dominate.,” another replied.
A third fan disagreed, noting, “I don’t think he’d win anywhere near 74 games, just due to how the game’s general strategy has progressed.”
“He’s recently said no because his brain doesn’t fire as fast as he’s gotten older,” another pointed out.
Jennings, who earned a staggering $4,522,700 on the syndicated game show, holds several Jeopardy! records, including the longest winning streak and the highest average of correct responses per game. His remarkable success led to his title as Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time in 2020.

After his initial historic run, Jennings returned for multiple tournaments, including the Ultimate Tournament of Champions and the 2020 GOAT tournament. In 2020, after the death of beloved host Alex Trebek, Jennings joined the show as a consulting producer and later became co-host alongside Mayim Bialik. By December 2023, after Bialik’s departure, Jennings took on the role of sole host.
Whether or not he would best his own record of 74 consecutive wins is unclear, but one thing’s for certain: Jennings is still a Jeopardy! legend.
