Kyle Larson was minutes away from winning in the USAC midget race on Saturday before one wrong manoeuvre saw him sustain a scary crash.
Larson had been dominant in the race and led almost throughout, but was unable to win at Hangtown 100 at Placerville Speedway and missed out on the cash prize after a miscalculation.
The NASCAR Cup Series Championship winner had been in the high lane with five laps to go with Daison Pursley behind him going in the inside lane. Larson had recently been open on the NASCAR playoff format after Denny Hamlin brutally missed out on the crown.
Larson attempted to pull off a slide for to further his lead but would lose control of his car as Pursley skid with Larson’s car going tumbling into the air.
The NASCAR champion had totally lost control while landing over the cushion and onto it’s side.
Thankfully, Larson was not at all injured in the crash and was able to walk out of the vehicle – even clapping Pursley as he went on to win the race.
Larson seemingly acknowledged that the crash was his fault rather than Pursley, with the Cup Series winner missing out on what would have been another first-place finish.
Hendrick Motorsports would have had their hearts in their mouths while watching Larson crash and fly through the air, with him not being the only person from the team to have crashed in the race.
Fellow Hendrick Motorsports’ NASCAR driver Corey Day had gone flipping through the air after he also made contact with Pursley.
The 19-year-old who is seen as a future star in the Cup Series while working with Larson, was also not injured in the crash and was able to walk away.
