Amidst an intense rainfall in Sacramento, rising waters instigated a precarious scenario, resulting in two individuals and several dogs becoming trapped on an island within Arcade Creek. FOX40 reports that the Sacramento Fire Department sprang into action following a distress call at about 5:30 p.m.
The exact height of the floodwaters was not initially clear, nor how the party came to be stranded on the island near 29 Arcade Boulevard. Despite these unknowns emergency boats and crews were dispatched to the location. KCRA 3’s coverage highlights the growing urgency, quoting Markus Reagan, battalion chief for Sacramento City Fire who stated, “One of the things is this time of year, we have to start thinking about the fact that the levees are going to start to be utilized again, water levels are going to be rising, and that they need to look at either moving to higher ground or being prepared to leave When we get weather, the situations prior to their egress being cut off.”
As per the KCRA 3’s account, the intervention last night was crucial, with rescue teams reaching the scene swiftly at Arcade Boulevard. Sacramento Fire stated that of the two people and a dog stranded, only one individual required assistance from the rescue crews.
Furthermore, KCRA 3’s weather team had declared an Impact Day for Thursday, in light of the adverse wet and windy conditions that were affecting outdoor activities and complicating travel within the Valley, Foothills, and Sierra.
