Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is out today, and as such swarms of people are trying out the new campaign to see the latest development in the beloved Black Ops narrative. To their surprise, they’re discovering a few quirks proving to be a tad frustrating.
Many of these problems stem from the solo experience. For one, the Call of Duty campaign cannot be paused, even if you’re playing on your own. The narrative focuses on a squad of characters, but no AI companions come in to replace the role another player would.
It has no checkpoint system, meaning if you quit out of the game for any reason you’ll have to start a mission over from the beginning. Also, the campaign requires an online connection at all times, meaning if you suddenly go offline for whatever reason (including game updates which can appear daily and without warning) you’ll lose progress.
It is made especially clear the campaign is intended to be a group experience. Even if you intend to play on your own, you have to engage with the game’s matchmaking and lobby-making process to start playing the campaign. That being said, it has still come to a shock for many the solo campaign experience seems to have been released with these apparent issues.
Eurogamer is still in the process of writing up its review for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, including its campaign, but in the meantime why not check out our Black Ops 7 guns tier list as well as a breakdown on how the endgame PvE mode works. That is, if you want to finish the campaign at all.
