Norwegian outlet Fosen Folket reports that black metal figure Snorre Ruch of Thorns and his friend Rune Krieghr Røstad a.k.a. General Gribbsphiiser of Slagmaur have been declared missing.
Røstad posted a photo of the two on Facebook earlier this week before heading out for a “boys’ hike and night under open skies” in the Varghiet forests. No one has heard from them since.
Authorities haven’t confirmed what route they took, and the Varghiet region in Fosen (Trøndelag, central Norway) is reportedly difficult to access. Police have begun search efforts and released photos and descriptions of both men. A storm is also moving into the area, complicating the operation.
Thorns—despite only releasing one full-length in 2001—remains a cornerstone of Norway’s second-wave black metal. Ruch (a.k.a. Blackthorn) also played briefly with Mayhem and guested with Satyricon.
Slagmaur last appeared live at 2023’s Unholy Congregation fest in Belgium with their notorious “Execution Show.”
