Sony’s latest State of Play event today had some exciting reveals for fighting game fans including Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls’ second beta test, but that wasn’t technically all they had to offer.
BlazBlue was also announced to be coming back to consoles too, but probably not in the way you’d first think.
91Act revealed that BlazBlue Entropy Effect X is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and the Nintendo Switch early next year.
Entropy Effect X is not a fighting game itself, but rather a roguelike action game based on the BlazBlue universe with some familiar characters from the series.
Fans of the franchise will probably remember that BlazBlue Entropy Effect first hit Steam back in 2023 in early access before getting a full release last year.
Players can use a selection of 14 BlazBlue characters with their signature moves including Ragna, Jin, Kokonoe, Mai, Noel and more.
It’s not really clear, however, what will make Entropy Effect X different from the previously released title yet.
The standard edition of the game is set to be priced at $25 while the deluxe edition is $35 containing additional character color palettes, the soundtrack and chibi avatars.
PlayStation and Switch owners can also pick up a physical edition of Entropy Effect X, but Xbox will be digital only.
BlazBlue: Central Fiction was the last mainline entry to release for the fighting game all the way back in 2016, which essentially wrapped up the series’ story to that point.
Hope for a new game seemed low after BlazBlue Producer Toshimichi Mori left Arc System Works in 2022, but there is a chance it could still return someday.
Guilty Gear Strive Producer Ken Miyauchi expressed interest this year in working on BlazBlue again.
BlazBlue Entropy Effect X is scheduled to release on February 12, 2026 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch.
