BROOKVILLE — The Jefferson County Election Board discussed the recent election on Tuesday.
Commissioner Scott North said there was a high number of write-ins and the official count team was tasked with adjudicating every single one, including every variation and every spelling of every vote that is cast. He said the official count is available on the Jefferson County website.
Deputy Chief Clerk and Voter Registrar Angie Burridge said election day went very well, with 44 percent voter turnout for the county. She said their return rate for mail-in ballots was 86 percent. She said they weren’t lagging in the system and the votes came back quickly.
North said the only thing out of the ordinary was that Summerville ran short on ballots, but they were able to take care of the situation. He said when the issue was brought to their attention, Commissioner Mark Humes took off for Summerville with more ballots, followed by Austin Miller, who works in IT and brought even more ballots. North said no one missed their opportunity to vote and they were able to take care of the problem in short order.
