SEXUAL souvenirs are on the chopping block in Majorca after being branded “sexist”.

The holiday hotspot’s left-wing party is pushing for an island-wide ban that would follow the lead of popular Spanish resort of Benidorm.

Unides Podem labelled mementos in the shape of penises, breasts and other erogenous regions as “sexist and vulgar”.

Campaigners raised the issue at Alcudia Town Council and slammed their “inconsistency” with events planned for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25.

They say a lot of time and money is being dedicated to these events against a backdrop of countless souvenir shops on Mallorca selling sexist items.

UP spokesperson María Ramos said: “This projects an inappropriate image of Alcudia to the outside world and at the same time contributes to perpetuating sexism and, therefore, gender violence.”

The party’s motion to ban the sale of the so-called “vulgar” items was defeated with votes against from the PP-Vox-UxA governing coalition.

UP subsequently responded: “Their view is that sexist and vulgar souvenirs of Mallorca are fine (they sell well).”

Benidorm has already slapped a ban on the sale of “sexual items” in its famous souvenir shops.

Tourist favourites such as popular T-shirts with slogans like “I think you are a lesbian” are being slated as offensive and unacceptable despite flying off the shelves to Brits.

Shops that refuse to withdraw the “discriminatory” products are slapped with an enormous 1,000 to 3,000 euros by the Benidorm council.

Water jugs with testicles close to the spout are also off-limits.

Local police have been leading the crackdown with raids on shops aimed at selling these products to tourists.

Secretary of the Professional Union of Local Police and Firefighters Francisco González said: “It is on the street where children and adolescents have the right not to be victims of obscene exposures and explicit sexual representations.”

The display of these items in numerous stores within view of minors has reportedly been the subject of multiple calls to the police.

The SPPLB union added: “The exposure of testicles, vaginas or glands in the middle of the street can be considered an offence to modesty or decorum.”

This clampdown on fun-loving souvenirs comes in the midst of intense discussion around tourism in the Balearic Islands and Spain more generally.

Majorca have been cracking on the once-harmless holiday habit of splitting the bill, blaming tourists for waiter shortages across the island.

Restaurants and bars have been devastated by anti-tourism protests, causing Brits to shun the island.

Spain’s Balearic islands experienced yet another summer of hostile protests which originally gained momentum in 2023 when a group put up fake danger signs at beaches.

Majorca were crying out for tourists to return this September amid claims that the economy is at a dangerous decline.

The Mayor of Palma de Majorca, Jaime Martínez Llabrés, later announced party boats will be completely banned from next season to stop tourists from behaving badly in the city.

It was reported that party boats had generated significant complaints from locals and Mr Martinez said the measures were part of the city council’s commitment to the quality of the destination.

In the latest setback to the islands, militant unions are demanding a 15 Euros-a-day tax for Brit holidaymakers.

Furious union leaders say the Balearic government is dragging its feet and doing nothing about over-tourism despite repeated promises to address the issue.
