1 Person Killed, 1 Injured During Highway 99 Hit-And-Run Crash In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – One person is dead and another person injured during a hit-and-run crash on Highway 99 on Monday morning.
Around 12:45 a.m. four people were traveling on southbound Highway 99 near 12th Avenue when a BMW X5 SUV driven by the suspect allegedly sideswiped the Buick, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, hit the guardrail, come back across several lanes of traffic and flip over, according to a statement from the CHP.
One person, a female, was partially ejected from the sedan and died at the scene. Another female in the car suffered major injuries. Two other people in the car were uninjured.
At some point during the incident, a third car was hit by the Buick but that driver was not injured.
The driver of the SUV reportedly stopped at the 12th Avenue onramp, got out of his SUV, and ran away. He is identified as 39-year-old Rodney Trenell Thurman. He is described as Black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds. Officers believe he went to the Oak Park area.
Highway 99 was closed for hours near the crash site.
